What is your home town?
Born in St. Petersburg, FL
How long have you been doing triathlons, running, or swimming?
Became a distance runner in 1995…thanks to the Marine Corps. Currently focused on running ultra-distances. Seven years as a hard-core cyclist (roadie). I have a strong love for the bicycle. To me, the bicycle is a work of art.
What is your zodiac sign?
Leo…may explain why I’m so action-oriented.
What is your favorite piece of training equipment?
Next to my mind…yes, I consider my mind to be a piece of training equipment – a strong mind makes for a strong body, I love my Hoka and Altra running shoes, especially for the long haul. After all, what good is a runner without happy and healthy feet?
If you were a t-shirt, what color would you be and why?
Green…it represents life and nature; it suggests stability and endurance. Plus, it was my mom’s favorite color.
What is your nickname?
OCG (Obsessive Compulsive Grady)…I don’t know why.
What is your favorite pre-race meal?
Two to three hours prior to activity, i have one cup steel oats mixed with one serving of Infinit MUD, one mashed banana, one tbs of chia seeds and one tbs cacao nibs along with four-ounce shot of all natural cold brew concentrated black coffee mixed with 16oz cold water. 30-45 mins prior to, I have Tailwind or Infinit endurance drink powder mixed with 20 oz of water.
What do you do to recover from a hard workout?
Immediately after my workouts, I consume 20-25 grams of all natural whey protein isolate mixed with 16oz cold water, a four ounce shot of all natural cold brew black coffee, and two tbs dextrose alone with some sort of all natural whole grain cereal bar. Two hours later, I have a whole food meal consisting of 20-25 grams of protein with some good-for-you fat and carbs…usually two slices of sprouted grain toast topped with mashed avocado and three eggs; water throughout the day, ending the day and every day with at least one gallon. Also, I don’t sit around and relax afterwards. I keep moving throughout the day doing some sort of light-duty chores around the house, walk to dog, foam roll and static stretch as needed, etc.
What is your favorite race?
The human race, of course. After all, if it wasn’t for this race, Endurance House wouldn’t be in business and I wouldn’t be able to call it my home away from home. So, THANK YOU for supporting your local business!
