What is your home town?
Aurora, Illinois and Brookfield, Wisconsin. Both in the Midwest, but proud to have chosen the Sarasota/Bradenton area as my new home!
How long have you been doing triathlons, running or swimming?
My first triathlon was in 1987, with a long break until 2005.
What is your zodiac sign?
Scorpio, which apparently makes me passionate and resourceful, but also obsessive and unyielding…I guess I’ll have to keep that in mind ☺
What is your favorite piece of training equipment?
I have two…My training log – I am a bit of a numbers geek, so this lets me track my history so I can see improvement and am able to identify causes in case of an overuse injury. And My Garmin GPS/heartrate monitor – although the heartrate monitor has fallen out of fashion in a some circles, it helps keep me from going too hard on the easy days and too easy on the hard days, while allowing me to understand how my fitness changes in response to my training.
If you were a t-shirt what color would you be and why?
Probably gray – not sure why, but I just tend to wear gray shirts a lot. However, I strive to be green, which is said to represent stress relief and healing.
What is your favorite pre-race meal?
A banana, a Green Machine Naked Juice, and a coffee.
What do you do to recover from a hard workout?
Nothing fancy…just take in some good calories (apples, bananas, pizza), hydrate, and relax.
What is your favorite race?
Ironman Wisconsin – it was my first ironman distance triathlon and the energy and crowd support is incredible. It was also the race where my dad and I finished together in 2012. I was quite a ways in front of him off of the bike, but was struggling on the run. He was shooting for a Kona spot and was keeping a nice measured pace all day. He caught me with about 3 miles to go at Camp Randall, the Wisconsin Badgers football field, and was tearing it up…Kona was at stake! Well, there was no way I was going to let him blow by me, and I wasn’t about to hold him up, so I picked up my pace to match his all the way into the finish.
